Eames inspired RAR chair, designed in 1948. The fundamental design of this dining chair (it comes in several models/versions) was the winning entry in the 1948 New York Museum of Modern Art’s international ‘low cost furniture design competition’. In creating the design, Eames made effective use of groundbreaking processes and new materials and in the 1950’s it went on to be the first mass produced plastic chair. It remains to this day an iconic piece that defines an era yet still remains timeless The chair features an ergonomically moulded shell (or bucket) seat that has a high, flexible back and deep seat pocket which conforms to the contours of the body. The waterfall seat edge sustains comfort for lengthy durations by reducing pressure on the back of the thighs, making it perfect for relaxing.
The RAR is also known as the ‘Eiffel’ Rocking chair due to its distinctive chromed rod base and supporting structure which resemble the Eiffel Tower.
This high quality Eames RAR chair reproduction is available in a wide variety of colours, constructed from sturdy plastic. It sits on stainless steel struts set into maple rockers.
