The beautiful floor lamp that lights from overhead.
The Arco is one of those designs that works on every level – clever, practical and gorgeous.
Introduced in 1962 by Achille Castiglioni, it was created to answer a tricky interior design problem – how do you create overhead light from a floor lamp? The solution is simple and highly effective, from the bold, unobtrusive marble base to the curved arc of metal that suspends the lamp in mid air.
Achille, who taught industrial design at the Politecnico in Milan, was famous for his use of everyday objects as inspiration for his products and would often arrive at lectures with a bag full of items he had collected on his way to work. The prompt from the Arco itself came from ordinary street lighting – although we are sure you will agree that the end result is far from ordinary.
Pash’s high quality replica Arco has an extendable arc and shade finished in brushed chrome, supported with a choice of black or white marble bases.
